Many Societies, clubs, political organisations, writers groups, schools, institutions and individual authors use this method to publish. Individuals may produce books as gifts, a memorial or simply for their own pleasure. Some individuals self publish their work as an alternative to using a publishing house or where the book is of a specialist nature. Publishing houses are generally only interested in those titles with immediate mass appeal.

This opens up a whole new area for individuals to create non-fiction and fiction for hundreds of previously un-represented niche markets.
